For our first overnight excursion since arriving almost a month ago, we journeyed to Rothenberg ob der Tauber, an überquaint walled town about two hours drive northwest of Munich.
With its remarkably preserved medieval center, Rothenberg is an anchor stop on the Romatischestrasse (Romantic Road), itself the creation of some brilliant medieval tourist board.
Our visit coincided with epic snow-rain-and-windstorm, so the proceedings were a bit soggy to say the least. Still, Rothenberg's beauty remained intact -- even though all the buildings are made of gingerbread.
