We celebrated the All Souls' Day holiday with our first excursion to the Bavarian Alps. Initially, we intended to visit Garmisch-Partenkirchen, the site of the 1936 Winter Olympics, and just a fun place-name to pronounce anyway. But we hit a big traffic jam at the end of the autobahn, and decided to divert to the alpine lakes of the next valley.
A cable car ride brought us right up to the snow line, where we were well-rewarded with impressive views of the Kochelsee and the Walchensee. Wintertime has arrived.
