Land O' Lakes

Blogging this trip has been a bit of a challenge, with far more photos and experiences to share than time in the day or bandwidth at night would permit.  So we've been running 4-5 days behind in telling the tale.   But now the gap has widened to 9 days, and all of our varied travels in Dubrovnik, Montenegro and Bosnia remain unblogged.   Don't worry -- we'll get back to them.

But today's trip to Plitvice Lakes National Park (back in Croatia) deserves to be blogged in real time.  This place is simply one of the natural wonders of the world, if it is indeed actually on this planet.

Rather than trying to explain the chemo-geology underlying this vast terrain of cascading streams and lakes, we'll let the pictures do the talking -- with the caveat that the pictures don't do it justice.

I visited Plitvice in Yugoslavia with my family in 1984! Absolutely beautiful.

Haven't been there since 1986 but in 1967 or 1968, when I was about six years old, I visited the place with my parents and we swam in the lake Kozjak. It was allowed then but not in 1986. It was late afternoon, the day had been very hot, but the water was extremely cold and clear -- unlike other lakes, the bottom had pebbles... it was an unforgettable experience.

Sorry, got carried away with memories... Great photos! It seems like you have had lots of fun. How did you get around? By car?
