When in Roman Istria

A short drive south from Rovinj, the town of Pula (or Pola if you prefer Italian place names) offers up all the Roman ruins a family could ask for.

The 2000-year-old Roman amphitheater not only remains standing; it's still in use as a concert venue.

For some reason, the local sports teams haven't managed to get it torn down yet in favor of something with more luxury boxes.

As a sports venue, our team found it to work just fine.

First we ran some Olympic sprints.

Then it was time for some soccer.

It was a relief to find out that, win or lose, no one would be fed to the lions today.

You could say we were pretty glad-iator about it.
